What is the Charles H. Schoen Memorial Scholarship?
The scholarship is open to students planning to attend a two-year (Associates Degree) program or other vocational-technical training.
In addition to the many two-year Associates Degree programs offered by Colleges and Universities, programs such as medical technician, A & P mechanic, and similar vocational studies qualify for the scholarship.
One Scholarship is awarded every year for one year in the amount of $1,000.00 per semester or $2,000.00 per year.

Who Is Eligible?
You need not be a student at Avon High School. Seniors at private schools and home-schooled students are also eligible.

Eligiblity Requirements

  • Be a graduating Senior.
  • Be a resident of Washington Township, Hendricks County, Indiana.
  • Intend to pursue vocational training.
  • Maintain a C or better average in High School.
  • Deadline
    Applications are accepted from January 1st to Midnight, April 1st of each year.

    Is It Grade Dependent?
    You do not need to be an "A" student to win this scholarship. Service to the community and the ability to show that you have an interest in and an understanding of the field you intend to enter are also important considerations,

    About Charles H. Schoen and the Scholarship Fund
    Charles H. Schoen was a Charter Member of the Avon Optimist Club who had perfect attendance for 27 years. In remembrance of him and his steadfast support of the community, the club established this scholarship. Recently, the Scholarship fund received a very generous bequest from the late Edward Loughery, a friend of Charles Schoen and a club member for many years.
    The Charles H. Schoen Memorial Scholarship fund is a 501-c(3) not-for-profit foundation. Anyone wishing to support vocational education for Washington Township students may contribute. Please contact the Avon Optimist Club at the scholarship address.
