2010 Avon Optimist Fish Fry
We hope you had as much fun as we did.
See you next year!

Thank You for supporting our community service work!

Wow! We even made the newspaper:
Avon Prepares for Annual Fish Fry

This is our big fundraiser, and the money we have earned here will be most of our 2010-2011 budget. THANK YOU for your support - we couldn't do it without you!

A huge Thank You to all the people that help us make the Fish Fry happen
This is an enormous effort and is accomplished through the hard work and help of many people in addition to our club members. Thank you all so very much!

Behind the Scenes
Ever wonder how all this gets done?
Starting in early spring, after the site is confirmed, food and paper goods purchases, rental arrangements, permits, and other necessities are set up.
About a month before the Fish Fry, we put out the small signs you see all around the Township. The big signs go out a bit later.
At the site of the Fish Fry, the first thing that gets set up is that funny-looking trailer with the post. It's our electrical connection, and Duke Energy comes out and hooks it up to their lines. The next thing that goes up is the tent, which we rent. After that, we move all the equipment and supplies out to the tent, unpack it, and set everything up. Usually, at this point, we find that something important has broken and we need to replace or repair it. The fryers go under a separate shelter to meet fire regulations. Our refrigerator and freezers keep all the cold food at the right temperature. Then it's time to start cookin'!
After dinner on Saturday night and on Sunday morning, everything gets taken apart, cleaned, and stored in the trailers for next year. At one of our meetings soon after the Fish Fry, we talk about how things went and what we can do or buy to make things better next year.

A very special "Thank You" goes to our Fish Fry Chair Paul Grant. We'd be lost without you, Paul!

History
We've been doing this for so many years no one really remembers when we started! Paul says that there was already a Fish Fry when he became a member back in the Stone Age. The first location was in front of Monty's Market, which was located on US 36 where the shopping center with Specks Pet Supply is now. At that time, there was one restaurant - a Dairy Queen - in Avon. Then for several years we held the Fry behind the (then) Avon High School (now the Avon Middle School South). We later moved to the Washington Township Park where we were for many years, until parking became too difficult. We have held the Fish Fry at its current location, in front of Wal-Mart, for several years.
